We’ve Always Believed There’s More To The Story

For more than 20 years, we’ve worked with people whose difficulties don’t always fit neatly into one box. Stress can affect sleep and relationships. Physical health can change how you feel emotionally. And sometimes what brings you to us is only one part of what’s going on.

That experience has shaped the way we work today. We take time to understand what’s happening in your life and what you want help with before deciding together what support makes sense.

For many people, that will simply be therapy. At other times, input from psychiatry, nutrition or health coaching may be useful. Because our practitioners are used to working together, we can bring in that wider expertise when it genuinely adds something to your care.

What You Can Expect From Us

Good care should feel personal, clear and considered from the very beginning. Here’s what that means at EmotionMatters.

Treated As An Individual

Your experiences, circumstances and priorities shape your care. We take time to understand what is happening for you and tailor your support around what you need.

The Right Practitioner For You

You don’t have to work out who to choose on your own. We take time to understand what you’re looking for and recommend a practitioner whose experience and approach are a good fit.

Clarity About Your Care

You should know what to expect. Your practitioner will discuss the focus of your work, how often you meet and how your care will be reviewed.

Wider Thinking When It Adds Value

Emotional and physical health can influence one another. Where another perspective could genuinely be useful, we can discuss additional support as part of your wider care.

Integrated care

Looking At The Wider Picture

Sometimes therapy is exactly what is needed. Sometimes it helps to look a little more widely.

EmotionMatters brings together practitioners across therapy, psychiatry, health coaching, dietetics and nutritional therapy. So where emotional wellbeing overlaps with physical health, nutrition, behaviour or medical mental health needs, we have other expertise to draw on.

That doesn’t mean seeing several practitioners unnecessarily. For most people, one service may be all they need. But when another perspective would be useful, we can bring that expertise into the conversation and help your care feel more joined up.

Our practitioners

Experienced Practitioners. Carefully Chosen.

The quality of your care depends on finding the right person to work with.

Our team brings together experienced practitioners from different professional backgrounds and areas of expertise. Many have worked with EmotionMatters for years, so there is genuine experience within the team of working together when someone’s needs are more complex.

We look for strong professional and clinical experience, but also for the qualities that matter when you’re talking about things that may be difficult to put into words – warmth, curiosity, good judgement and the ability to really listen.

And you don’t have to work out who to choose on your own. Tell us a little about what’s going on and we can recommend a practitioner based on what you need and how you would like to work.

Clinical Standards

Care You Can Have Confidence In

Good care is not only about the relationship you have with your practitioner. It also depends on the professional standards and clinical oversight behind that care.

Our practitioners work within their professional training, experience and relevant regulatory or professional requirements. Your care is assessed, planned and reviewed, with clear boundaries around confidentiality, consent and the role of each practitioner.

If something falls outside a practitioner’s expertise, or another type of care would be more appropriate, we’ll talk this through with you and help you understand the next step.

  • Professional Standards Our practitioners work within the scope and requirements of their profession.
  • Clinical Oversight Clear processes for assessment, planning, review and appropriate escalation.
  • Knowing When Another Approach Is Needed We’ll discuss other options when a different practitioner or type of care would better meet your needs.

Our practitioners include professionals registered with or accredited by recognised UK professional and regulatory bodies

Our Clinical Standards

We want you to feel confident not only in the practitioner you work with, but in the standards that sit behind your care.

Professional practice
Our practitioners work within the boundaries of their training, experience and professional role, and in accordance with the requirements of the relevant professional or regulatory bodies where applicable.

Confidentiality and consent
Your privacy matters. Information about your care is treated confidentially and handled in accordance with our privacy and data protection responsibilities. Your practitioner will explain any circumstances in which information may need to be shared, including where there are concerns about safety.

Assessment and treatment planning
Your care begins with an appropriate assessment so that your practitioner can understand what is happening, what you would like help with and whether their service is suitable for your needs. From there, you can agree on the focus of your work and how you will work together.

Reviewing your care
Care should not simply continue without reflection. Your practitioner will review how things are progressing with you and can adjust the focus or approach as your needs change.

Working with other healthcare professionals
Where it would be helpful, and with your permission, we may work alongside or communicate with other professionals involved in your care, such as your GP, consultant or another member of your healthcare team.

Knowing when another type of care is needed
There may be times when another practitioner, service or level of care would be more appropriate. If that happens, we will explain this to you and, where possible, help you understand the appropriate next step.

Safety and urgent support
EmotionMatters is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are at immediate risk of harming yourself or someone else, or need urgent mental health support, please contact NHS 111, attend A&E or call 999 in an emergency.

Clinical review
Our clinical content and care information are reviewed by appropriately experienced members of our clinical team. Where relevant, pages across the website also identify the clinical author or reviewer and the date the information was last reviewed.
