Psychiatry Can Help When You Need Greater Clinical Clarity
You may already be in therapy, taking medication, working with your GP or simply trying to understand why you do not feel like yourself.
A psychiatric assessment can help bring together your symptoms, history, previous treatment and current circumstances so you can make more informed decisions about your care.

Persistent anxiety, panic or physical symptoms despite treatment or self-management.
Depression & Low Mood
Ongoing low mood, low motivation or emotional numbness that is not improving.
Mood Swings & Bipolar Symptoms
Significant changes in mood, sleep, energy or behaviour that need careful assessment.
Medication Review
Review whether your current medication is helping, causing side effects or needs adjusting.
Complex Symptoms
When anxiety, mood, sleep, concentration or physical symptoms overlap and the picture feels unclear.
Sleep & Emotional Instability
Significant sleep changes, agitation, irritability or difficulty regulating emotions.
When Treatment Hasn’t Worked
When therapy, medication or other treatment has not helped enough.
Second Opinion
A fresh specialist view on diagnosis, treatment options or what to do next.
Our Psychiatric Approach
A psychiatric assessment should give you more than a diagnosis or prescription.
Your psychiatrist will take time to understand what has been happening, what you have already tried and how your mental and physical health, medication and wider circumstances may be contributing. From there, you can discuss the options available and agree what feels appropriate for you.
What happens in a psychiatric assessment?
A psychiatric assessment is a detailed medical consultation focused on understanding your mental health and what may be contributing to the difficulties you are experiencing.
Your psychiatrist will ask about your current symptoms and how they are affecting your life. They may also explore areas such as your mood, sleep, concentration, physical health, medication, previous treatment, family history, work, relationships and relevant life experiences.
At the end of the assessment, your psychiatrist will discuss their clinical view with you and explain what they recommend next. Depending on your circumstances, this might include a diagnosis or working formulation, medication, therapy, further assessment or input from another healthcare professional.
Seeing a psychiatrist does not automatically mean you will be prescribed medication.
